James Steel has extensive experience in security, investigations, risk management, fraud control and public speaking. Mr. Steel most recently served as the Regional Vice President for Security and Risk Management at Mastercard Worldwide where he was responsible for security, fraud control and risk management issues related to credit card crime in 25 states. He conducted numerous training seminars and presentations for financial institutions and law enforcement agencies on the prevention of credit card fraud.
Prior to entering the private sector, Mr. Steel served more than 20 years with the United States Secret Service as a Special Agent. He was responsible for investigations involving monies and securities of the US as well as the protection of the President and others granted protection by statute. Mr. Steel retired from the Secret Service as the Assistant to the Special Agent in Charge of the Houston Field Office.
He received his Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Houston and his Bachelor’s Degree from Wittenberg University. Mr. Steel was a contributing author for The Bank Credit Card Business and The Bank Card Business Today and Tomorrow. He also serves on the Rice University Coordinating Board for Law Enforcement Training and the University of Houston Advisory Board for the Masters Degree Program in Security Management. He is licensed by the State of Texas as a Personal Protection Officer, Commissioned Security Officer and Private Investigator.
